1When I open PartSmart, the Model Tab is blank; there are no Models to select. What should I do?
This problem is related to your Printer Drivers. Check to see that you are using a current Printer Driver; if not, update.
2When I installed PartSmart, my bin locations (or notes) didn't import.

You can import stock and notes after the install for one catalog at a time, by clicking on Start then Run and typing:

c:\parts\dbaccess.exe "c:\parts\ps8" "c:\parts" "xx"

(where xx = the two digit OEM number)

3How do I find the OEM ID numbers for the manufacturers I'm using?

The OEM ID, which is the two-digit number that represents each manufacturer, can be found on the CD itself, printed next to the name of the manufacturer in parentheses.

If you need access to a full list of all the OEMs with their OEM IDs, you can view them in the file datasets.dat, which is located in the PARTS folder.  Open the file in Notepad, and you will see a full list of the manufacturers available in PartSmart with their OEM numbers.  DO NOT edit this file, however, because doing so will adversely affect your PartSmart install's functionality.

4I get an error message when selecting a part in MTD

The November 2008 release may produce an error condition when installed over August 2008 data (if you install November over earlier data or are installing it for the first time, these instructions will not be needed).

If, after installing the November 2008 release, you launch PartSmart 8 and go to the Parts tab and get an error message when you select a part, these instructions will help you quickly resolve this problem.

These instructions assume PartSmart is installed on a C Drive in the Parts folder. You may have installed PartSmart elsewhere (one other common location is C:\Program Files\ARI\PartSmart).

You can determine where PartSmart is installed by right clicking on the PartSmart 8 icon on your desktop and selecting Properties. The field labeled Target, will contain a path to where PartSmart is installed.

The easiest way to correct this problem is to delete two files located in C:\Parts\01\Locale\English folder (or it’s equivalent on your system). The two file names are: prd.idx7 and prt.idx7. Before deleting these files, exit PartSmart and have any remote workstations exit PartSmart.

One easy way to navigate here is to follow these steps:

  1. Double Click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.

  1. Double Click on the Local Disk (C:) entry in the list of Hard Disk Drives.

  1. Double Click on the Parts folder (or your equivalent folder).

  1. Double Click on the 01 folder.

  1. Double Click on the Locale folder.

  1. Double Click on the English folder. You should see 14 files with the idx7 files in the list.

  1. Right Click on the prd.idx7 file and select Delete.

  1. Right Click on the prt.idx7 file and select Delete.

  1. Re-launch PartSmart 8 and verify that the Parts tab issues are now resolved.
